Since stepping into the job in January 2025, Sally has led LFB’s commitment to hold itself to the highest standards of conduct and behaviour, following the Independent Culture Review of the London Fire Brigade (2022) and has refocused the employee value proposition towards gaining greater community representation. LFB is one of the world’s largest fire and rescue services with 9 million residents.
Before joining LFB, Sally held senior HR roles, including Director of HR at Hertfordshire County Council, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, and the Scout Association.
Her PhD research on organisational change in the workplace – which she carried out alongside an HR director role – won her the PhD Student of the Year Award at the University of Hertfordshire in 2025. She has been recognised as one of HR’s Most Influential Practitioners in 2019, 2022 and 2026.
Alongside her day job, Sally is a trustee of London Playing Fields Foundation, a mentor with the CIPD, and an advisory board member of the Fair Chance Business Alliance, which boosts employment for people with criminal records.
She also chairs the Greater London Authority (GLA) Collaboration Group for HR, which unites leaders of organisations across the GLA, including Transport for London.
