Leon Smith is one of the most successful British tennis coaches of recent times. He is currently Great Britain’s Davis Cup Captain (2010-present) and led the team to their first Davis Cup title in 79 years when they won the competition in 2015. Leon was also the coach of Andy Murray through the early stages of his career.
Leon took over the Great Britain Davis Cup team in 2010 with the team on the brink of relegation to the lowest tier of the competition and ranked number 44 in the world rankings. Within five years of assuming captaincy, the team won the Davis Cup title and had reached number one in the world rankings. In 2015, the team won the BBC Sports Personality Awards “Team of the Year”.
In 2016, Leon was awarded an OBE for services to tennis in the 2016 Queen’s Birthday honours.
